The Sony Touch (PRS-650), the middle sibling of Sony’s eReader range, has been revamped to keep it in the tough eReader market.  Sony has put the Touch eReader on a diet and shaved off the sides to bring down the weight and size from its previous version the PRS-600. The Sony Touch is also slightly lighter and smaller than the latest generation Kindle, but has the same display size of 6”.  The reduced size is mostly due to the keyboard being integrated into the display.  The Sony Touch carries a price tag of $229 which puts it well above the price of Barnes and Noble’s Nook and Amazon’s Kindle whose models are both under $150.

The two other eReaders in the Sony range, the Sony Pocket and the Sony Daily Reader, have joined the Sony Touch with touch capability, which is one of the unique selling points that distinguish the Sony products from other eReaders.  The Sony Touch display features are almost identical to the Kindle 3, with Pearl eInk which allows 16 levels of contrast and a 6” display size.   The noticeable difference is that the reader can interact with the screen with their finger or a stylus.
